Natural Selection Simulation

Inspired by PhET's Natural Selection β€” explore dominant/recessive traits, mutation, and environmental selection in a bunny population

🌍 Equator
Generation: 0
Population: 1
🟀 Brown: 0
βšͺ White: 1
Floppy Ears: 0
Straight Ears: 1
Long Teeth: 0
Short Teeth: 1

Environment

Equator is grassy year-round β€” brown fur camouflages best.

Selection Factors

Add Mutation

Each mutation is dominant and can only be added once per trait.

Population by Generation

How to Use

  • The population starts with a single bunny β€” click Add a Mate so it can reproduce.
  • The starting population is white fur, straight ears, short teeth (homozygous recessive: ff ee tt).
  • Use Add Mutation to introduce a dominant allele (Brown fur, Floppy ears, or Long teeth) into one bunny β€” it will show the trait immediately and may be passed on.
  • Choose an Environment and toggle β˜€οΈ/❄️ to change the ground colour, then switch on Selection Factors to see which traits help bunnies survive.
  • Click Add 1 Generation or Play to advance β€” reproduction, inheritance, and selection all happen automatically each generation.
  • Watch the Population by Generation graph to see which alleles become more or less common over time.
  • Click Reset All to start over.
